Skin problems and allergies are very common in cats. They are very susceptible to these problems which are mainly caused by parasites such as fleas or mites, fungal or bacterial infections. Cat skin and allergy problems can easily be tackled if they are checked timely and treated the right way. There are various medications available which come in the form of injectable steroids, capsules, tablets, sprays and ointments which provide great relief as it works directly on the affected area very quickly and efficiently. These medicines include capsules such as Hydroxyzine and Diphenhydramine, tablets namely Cyproheptadine, Chlorpheniramine, Hydroxyzine HC, methylprednisolone and more.

Vetalog is a very effective injectable steroid that is used to treat cat skin and allergy problems. This steroid, whose main active ingredient is Triamcinolonecan, is used to treat various conditions such as immune suppression, pain and other inflammatory problems. It also finds its application in the treatment of allergies, shock, disk disease, skin conditions, cancer, and autoimmune diseases in cats. However there can be some side effects from this steroid which include increased thirst, increased urination, increased appetite, panting, delayed wound healing, liver damage and disease and also gastrointestinal irritation. Clemastine is one of the most powerful tablets for effective treatment of cat skin and allergy. It provides relief from all forms of allergy. This belongs to a class of antihistamine which works by blocking the effects of histamine, which is a naturally occurring chemical in the cat’s body. The normal dosage in cats is half a tablet per 12 hours and it is very useful in treating sneezing, runny nose, itching watery eyes, hives, rashes, itching, and other symptoms of allergies along with common cold. Diarrhea is one of the most common side effects associated with this medicine.

Atopia is an oral solution that is used to treat various cat skin and allergy problems. It is known to be very effective in the treatment of chronic manifestations of atopic dermatitis in cats. It is one of the new treatments for controlling atopic dermatitis, which is the most common skin allergy disease in cats. The main active ingredient of this product is Cyclosporine, which is a cyclic polypeptide, immune modulating agent consisting of 11 amino acids. This solution is very effective in controlling feline allergic dermatitis as manifested by excoriations (including facial and neck), miliary dermatitis, eosinophilic plaques, and self-induced alopecia in cats which are at least 6 months of age.
